Summer: June-August

June to August (Summer) is monsoon season in Nepal. During the rainy monsoon season between June to August, it rains to an average between 200-375 millimetres in Kathmandu.Bhutan, however, does not receive the high level of rainfall that other countries in the region do, and when it does rain, it is generally confined to the afternoons. Monsoon in Nepal is not the typical monsoon of Asia. Rains usually occur during the night-time leaving the sky clean and clear by the morning making the Himalayan view even more dramatic. Some parts of the Himalayas in Manang, Mustang and Dolpo are in rain-shadow areas, meaning that the mountains are high enough to block the clouds.

Summer is also the warmest time of year across the Tibetan Plateau and as a result, a popular time for people to visit. It is however, also the time when Tibet is likely to get more rain. Despite this, it is still possible to go trekking, although the downside is that the mountains tend to be more cloud covered than in the winter. Summer in Tibet is also the time when you will see more signs of nomadic life, as nomads make their way through green pastures with their yaks. In you are looking for great photographic shots, then the most colourful season is August. This is also the time of the harvest.

Bhutan, however, does not receive the high level of rainfall that other countries in the region do, and when it does rain, it is generally confined to the afternoons.
